Another Tricky pic!

Another pic, where it can seem to be a good shape of the horse. The rider points on something during the riding, it has nothing to do with shaping the horse.
What do you think?
I´ll come back and tell what is not functional in a couple of days, until then, feel free to leave comments!!

A tricky pic.

Well, what would you like to say here? What is your feeling?

First I want to say the the pic is original, not remade in photoshop. Why do I say so?

Cause its very common that you bring the surface up a bit in the front to show an imaginary view of a horse in a good shape.

But.

This pic is made in a roundpen, not more Imaginary than that :-)

Anyway, It looks like the horse has a good shape ha?

He doesnt.

Why?

I will let you think a couple of days, and then I´ll let you know, please feel free to make comments and tell what you see! And feel free to correct the rider too!

Coaching Karlotta 2

Once again, Karlotta is brave enough to give me two of her pics to Coach :-)

Ok, Here we go:

It seems like, (I dont have the facts) Karlotta is a bit captured in the traditional (Belly in, shoulders back) education which gives a stiff position and also can give problems with WHERE to keep the balance.

The horse is on the outside hind and Karlotta is working with her unside hand to shape the horse on the inside. Nope. It will never be functional.

We basicly have 4 part - diagonals to work with, in this case, Karlotta have to come back more in the middle to be able to even feel them.

The only leg in the upper pic which is not disturbed, is..

Yes what do YOU as a reader think?

Well..

Right front ofcourse.

Why?

Look at the diagonals.

The Diagonal to the outside hind is mixed up with the diagonal to the inside hind, they are doing each others work and have each others responsibility. Very common yes. We think that we have to shape the inside frame with the inside hand and we sometimes loose the outside rein.

And then we look at the inside front, in this case on the diagonal with the outside hind which is the supportive leg in this pic.

I would like to say three quick sentences: Breastbone up! , loose your inside hand! Support the outside rein.

That´s only a very quick fix and we would have to add: Bring your balance down to your pelvis, Breathe! and look, where you are going!

My question would also be, what is your plan?

Next pic shows the similar problem, Karlotta is a responsive rider, but seems to ride from the strict rules from the old fashion riding system which you learn from traditional Riding Schools.

Also here, once again we see the inner hand having to much responsibility. Horse have a soft round shape but, only because of the inner hand, which means, it will not last and it is not functional.

It seems like Karlotta have to work a lot with different aids and inputs all the time to make the horse do the different things and what I would like to do with this Equipage is, to let her feel. Just feel..the different movements, the different corners, and all her own and the horse´s bodyparts, before she even start to shape the horse.

Coordination

Can you become a better rider by drawing?

Yes. I say. If you work effectively with coordination exercises, while using both hands, so you can effectively increase the brain's capacity to coordinate the movements even on horseback. it is great fun too!

Take a piece of paper, two similar pencils, and get going. Draw flowers, forms and shapes, with both hands simultaneously.

Increase the difficulty level by writing your name!
To the same and different directions!

This exercise takes about 10 minutes, twice a week.

Email us your great results so I publish them here in the blog ;)

Coaching

Oh How i adore warmblood trotting horses!! They really stole my Heart from early age :-) In my life.

Berra is a well built horse with a lot of charm :-)

When i see the pic from Maria and Berra i immideately see a very normal fault riders do, and that is to shape the inside with the inside hand. That gives the wrong support to the horse and Equipage.

You can see Marias inside hand, and that action, gives a reaction on the diagonal to the outside hind. Which in this case will be the supportive leg. Which should be the work from the inside hand.

We have to learn that it is the outside hand together with our inside leg that shapes the inside of the horse, the inside hand of the rider should only show the direction and give an idea about the flexibility we want on the diagonal hind, outside hind.

And then we look at the movie and we see exactly the same thing. The reaction to shape the inside with inside hand, is once again the main fault, so my recommendation is, think different! Act different, give the opposite aids and you will have a more flexibel and relaxed horse, putting weight on the hindlegs!

Coaching

First of all, when you want us to Coach you and your horse in riding, make sure that you tell about your ambition, what you want to reach and also a short version about you as a Equipage!

Karlotta and her horse Heaven is a beutiful Equipage and due to the facts that we have no more info, I will only give a short idea about what I see and what could be the work for Karlotta to do.

This first pic shows Karlotta, bareback on a galopping horse. If we look at functionality, the only thing to say is that she has a chairseat. Using no saddle, prevents a good position. Comparing to a saddle that fits and puts you in a good position so you can give correct aids, this is more for free-time-riding and "Having fun" without any goal to make Dressage-movements.

If I compare to this very well known Horse-Man:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgBnP5TWgEU

Where I can see the same, Its flashy but not functional, not a correct passage or in fact not comparable to real dressage-movements based on functionality. Its free, Its cool, Its great, but not dressage.

This next picture, shows a bit more fokus on movements, Karlotta want to create a nice shape. What we see is the lack in functionality based on the fact that left hind takes to much weight, cause of the inside hand (Right hand) is pulled backwards. The horse is on the diagonals but to flat over the croup, a bit swinging, yes, but not enough to give a good structure. Nice Equipage though! Right leg is pulled upwards to meet right shoulder and to give a more round horse on the inside, but, the only thing that is created here, is tension.

This last pic is very very hard to coach, the only thing a see is that left hind, once againg is the supportive leg and if that is the goal from the rider, its ok, if not, the rider should think more about which hindleg she want to be supportive for the rest of the Equipage and in what moment this should change.
Nice Equipage as I wrote, and I´m curious about real dressage-pics to be able to be fair in my Coaching :-)
